Looking Forward

I’ve been a bad food blogger.

The holidays came as a rush this year and, while I’ve been cooking, I haven’t been sharing those meals here.

Sorry about that.

To make amends, here’s a list of hopes/plans/wishes/resolutions that I’m looking forward to in 2012:

  • Tonight’s prime rib – with a recipe inspired by Michael Ruhlman and AmazingRibs. I have big hopes for this meal, and it will be fun to share it with dear friends.
  • Blogging more, worrying less – sometimes I over-think things when I should let the food do the talking.
  • Catching up on my reading – Michael Ruhlman’s CharcuterieSmokin’ with Myron Mixon, The Homesick Texan Cookbook, The Gluten-Free Bible, and the Big Green Egg Cookbook are all on my list.
  • Learning to code in WordPress - painful but necessary.
  • Spending more time playing and traveling with my dear wife.
  • Experimenting with the new Lomo lens on my Panasonic cameras (photo of the Big Green Egg ornament above taken with it).
  • Weight Watchers – need to keep on keeping it off. Mom’s caramel corn didn’t help over the holidays, but we are in much better shape than we were last year.

    Happy New Year, Dave!

    If you are using Meathead’s guide, you’ll do fine. Heck, you’d do fine just following your own skills but it’s always nice to get a little reassurance that you’re doing the right thing. Especially when it’s a $50 or more cut of meat.

      Thanks! It’s Meathead’s rub and Ruhlman’s time and temp. Going to fire up the Egg in a bit, sear the heck out of the roast, stash it someplace cool while we go out to a show with friends, then finish it in the oven when we get back. Wish me luck.

    Well I have to admit, a few days ago I said to myself “where the hell is Dave?”. :) I really like your 2nd statement. I think I do the same thing and I like “let the food do the talking’. Good luck with wordpress coding. Love the ornament and for pitty sakel, a little caramel corn never hurt anyone! Happy New Year

    Just a thought … do you use Mozilla when you write in wordpress? A friend who owns an internet media company told me wordpress was created on mozilla platform and things go better if you use their browser when using wordpress.

    Good to know about WordPress, thanks. I switch between Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, but haven’t settled on a definite favorite yet.

    happy new year to you too dave! i received the homesick texan cookbook for christmas, and i can’t wait to start cooking from it. i’ve made several of lisa’s recipes from her blog and am excited to try out more. i’ll be curious to see updates on ones you make, once you get caught up on reading. :-)
